The IJsselmeer and Markermeer are surounded by beautifull old harbour cities. Our history revives here and it is absolutely recommended to vised at least one of them by sailing south.
With the right wind course will be set to Enkhuizen, for example. This old fishermens town is still very much authentic. The Zuiderzee museum is located there; an outdoor museum were you’ll find yourself returning to the 16th century.
More south, situated at the Markermeer, lies Hoorn. This city also breaths the middleages. The colourfull harbour lies at the city centre and is full of life. There is plenty of oppertunity to visit the little cafés, restaurants and shops.
Great places to also visit are; Medemblik (steam train) Amsterdam (takes time) Stavoren (delicious fresh fish) Makkum (beautiful sunsets)
